Damage Assessment Overview

Content Specification

Damage assessment mapping products are either directly derived from satellite images acquired during the crisis or indirectly obtained through numerical modelling and comparison between post crisis and archive information.
These products would be provided in case of crisis and ‘on-demand’ and include following information:
  • type of hazard and hazard caused damaged (e.g. for flooding the flood affected or damaged infrastructure, buildings…or for earthquake the damaged buildings, houses…);
  • GLIDE number;
  • location;
  • event timing;
  • administrative boundaries;
  • urban areas & toponyms;
  • transportations networks;
  • key infrastructures;
  • acquisition date and type of analyzed data;
  • interpretation text.
They may also provide relevant and up-to-date thematic information, for example location of actors and what they do in the operational theatre (who-what-where), road access, climatic conditions, destroyed health centres, security zones etc.

Scale, Area

  • Scale: 1:25,000 – 1:500,000.
  • Area: 245 - 96500 km²
(Dependent upon users’ requirements and size of AOI.)

Output formats

Standard ouput formats are:
  • Digital maps (jpg, tif, pdf) incl. world-file and KMZ-file.
    • Standard print size: DIN A1;
    • On demand print size: DIN A3.
  • Vector data (shapefile).

Accuracy

  • Geometric accuracy: 5 pixel for 1m data, up to 1 pixel for >100m data.
  • Thematic accuracy: > 75%

Delivery-Time

Within 8 hours after satellite data reception.
