Disaster Extent Overview

Content Specification

Disaster extent mapping products are either directly derived from satellite images acquired during the crisis or indirectly obtained through numerical modelling and comparison between post crisis and archive information.
These products would be provided in case of crisis and “on-demand” and include the following information:
  • extent and type of hazard (e.g. for flooding the flood extent or for earthquake the affected area);
  • GLIDE number;
  • location;
  • event timing;
  • administrative boundaries;
  • urban areas & toponyms;
  • transportations networks;
  • key infrastructures;
  • acquisition date and type of analyzed data;
  • interpretation text.

Scale, Area

  • Scale: 1:25,000 – 1:500,000.
  • Area: 245 - 96500 km²
(Dependent upon users’ requirements and size of AOI.)

Output formats

Standard ouput formats are:
  • Digital maps (jpg, tif, pdf) incl. world-file and KMZ-file.
    • Standard print size: DIN A1;
    • On demand print size: DIN A3.
  • Vector data (shapefile).

Accuracy

  • Geometric accuracy: 5 pixel for 1m data, up to 1 pixel for >100m data.
  • Thematic accuracy: > 75% (depends on type of analysis)

Delivery-Time

Within 8 hours after satellite data reception.
