The left panel (configuration) is dedicated to several functionalities. The main one is the layer selection (map) which is shown in Figure 3-5 with an example layer (coming from OpenStreetMap project, http://www.openstreetmap.org). This panel is used to manage the layers which are shown in the central map panel by using the menu buttons.
The main functionality of the left panel, as already said, is the layer panel which is used basically to organise the layers and to hide/unhide them using the checkboxes associated with each layer.
The following Figure 3-7 shows the server interface which can be used to add a new server in the form of an HTTP address (for example the local WMS with locally stored products).

Once the WMS server is loaded into the toolbox, by clicking on the connect button it is possible to query the WMS GetCapabilities in order to view the available layers. This is shown in a new panel which is put on top of the map (see Figure 3-8) which is called using the “Name” which has been inserted by the user in the Servers panel.

In order to add a layer to the map, the user has to select the layer and click on the Add Selected button on the bottom right of the panel.
The last functionality offered by the configuration panel is the KML add which is used to load a local or remote KML to the Web-GIS. In order to add a locally stored KML the user has to select the Local Radio Button and load the KML file using the classical Browse file interface; in order to load a remote KML (stored on a public web server) the user has to select the Remote Radio Button and insert the HTTP address.
